Respiratory Medicine

Adelaide Respiratory provides specialist care in all fields of respiratory medicine, including airways disease (Bronchitis/Bronchiectasis, COPD, Emphysema, and Asthma), Interstitial Lung Disease, lung cancer and pleural disease.

Our specialists have expertise in providing bronchoscopy, Linear and Radial Endobronchial Ultrasound biopsies (EBUS), cryobiopsies and pleural procedures. Procedures are performed in the private sector at Calvary Adelaide Hospital and Ashford Hospital.

For patients without private healthcare, bronchoscopy and pleural services are conducted at the Royal Adelaide Hospital.

Sleep Medicine

Assessment of complex sleep related disorders, including obstructive/central sleep apnoea, parasomnias, restless leg syndrome, periodic limb movement disorder and narcolepsy, via arrangement of ambulatory (home-based) or monitored sleep studies.

Our specialists manage a variety of complex sleep-related disorders. These include:

  • Obstructive sleep apnoea / Complex sleep apnoea
  • Obesity hypoventilation syndrome
  • Non-REM and REM related parasomnias
  • Narcolepsy
  • Idiopathic hypersomnolence
  • Restless leg syndrome / Periodic Limb Movement Disorder

Attended (hospital-based) sleep study, CPAP/PAP titration study and Multiple Sleep Latency Test (MSLT) assessment can be organised via the North Eastern Community Hospital and Burnside Hospital. Ambulatory (home-based) sleep studies are conducted through many dedicated sleep apnoea diagnosis and therapy services providers.

Pulmonary Function Testing

This consists of a variety of specialized tests designed to provide a quantitative assessment of your lung function (i.e. how well your lungs transfer oxygen to your blood). 

Assessment of overall lung function within the clinic, including:

  • Spirometry (pre & post bronchodilator)
  • Diffusion capacity
  • Plethysmography
  • Provocation testing (Mannitol challenge)
  • 6-Minute walk test

Depending on the assessment required, the testing can take between 20-45 minutes and are performed in the clinic by a senior respiratory technicians with over 25 years of experience.

Results are obtained within 24-36 hours and returned to the requesting physician.

Satellite Clinics

Adelaide Respiratory provides specialist consulting services in Murray Bridge (The Bridge Clinic) and in Kadina (Kadina Medical Associates) on a monthly basis to ensure rural patients have access to experienced respiratory and sleep medicine physicians.

Appointments are coordinated through the Adelaide Respiratory Calvary clinic.
